Considered by many the best purple shampoo, Fanola No Yellow cancels yellow tones on platinum and light blonde hair. If your hair gets brassy easily, you need this shampoo to go back to your bright, cool blonde.
It is a high strength purple shampoo which will tone away yellow and leave you with bright silvery white hair, but it may stain your hands in the process.

The Pros
The best thing about Fanola No Yellow shampoo is the pigment levels. It is a very intense purple shampoo, and will banish yellow and brass from the most bleached of hair. Depending on how porous your hair is, and how brassy, you should leave it only between 1 and 5 minutes. It is not a purple shampoo to use every day, unless you want to turn your hair purple.
This shampoo works best on hair or highlights that has been bleached to level 8 to 10, and it’s showing brassiness. If you have naturally grey hair that is becoming muddy or brassy, this will help as well. Fanola No Yellow is unapologetically purple. It’s so purple it may feel like your hair is turning silver. The purple shampoo Fanola No Yellow is probably the most pigmented one you can actually buy outside of a hairdresser. Leave it too long, and your highlights may develop lavender streaks.
You can use this shampoo to tone hair after bleaching but if your hair is very damaged or sensitive you may be better off with a nourishing toning mask instead. It won’t dry your hair further, but it will not hydrate it either. If your hair is very porous, leave it for less than 5 minutes, wash it off and if needed apply it again. It’s easier to just apply it again and trying to remove visible violet tones from your freshly bleached hair.
If you are a brunette looking to cancel unwanted orange tones, though, you are better off with a blue shampoo instead. It will cancel out yellow, but not orange as it’s too purple. Joico Color Balance Blue Shampoo and the matching conditioner are great for brunettes or darker blondes.
The Cons
The important thing to keep in mind with this purple shampoo Fanola No Yellow is that it’s almost as strong as a toner. It is thick and really, really purple. This is what makes it so effective to remove brassiness from blonde hair, but at the same time you need to use gloves and stick to the application times. Otherwise you will end up with lavender palms, or light violet hair.
Some people also dislike the smell. It is a bit strange, like a sweet liquorice with a chemical base, but most purple shampoos don’t really smell great. It does wash off and doesn’t linger so if your concern is the smell just use a nicer smelling hair mask afterwards.
In terms of hair nutrition, this shampoo is not the best either. It doesn’t really condition your hair, it just deposits violet pigments on it. It won’t dry your hair, but if you have bleached hair you know how much it craves moisture.
Use an intensive purple toning hair mask afterwards to hydrate your hair. Fanola offers a matching No Yellow Mask. This mask won’t tone your hair so much, but it will hydrate and nourish your hair thanks to pressed grape extracts and silk proteins. It also closes the cuticle of the hair helping color last longer.
Should You Buy Purple Shampoo Fanola No Yellow?
If you have natural or lightened light blonde hair, and it keeps getting brassy, this purple shampoo is perfect for you. Provided you don’t mind being careful on how to apply it (use gloves), it is highly effective for removing brassiness.
However, if you have very sensitive skin do a patch test before hand, as the fragance or pigment may cause irritation. If your zone has hard water, use a hard water shampoo first and then wash with this one for maximum effect. It won’t remove mineral buildup or lighten your hair.
The purple shampoo Fanola No Yellow is a fan favourite for a reason. Reviews on Amazon are overwhelmingly positive and you get quite a lot of product for the price. As you only should use it once a week, this means it’s very cost effective.
Alternative Purple Shampoos
If Fanola No Yellow Purple Shampoo doesn’t do it for you, here are some other very effective products to fix yellow hair.
Pravana The Perfect Blonde Purple Toning Mask
If you rather use a toning mask, the Pravana The Perfect Blonde Purple Toning Mask will treat your hair and banish brass. This mask is rich, nourishing and leaves hair silky with no yellow in sight. The shampoo and conditioner are also pretty great.
Clairol Shimmer Lights Shampoo
Easier to use and less likely to dye your hands purple, but it may dry your hair a bit too much. The matching conditioner can be left in the hair for upwards of 10 minutes for removing stubborn yellow tones. It’s also a bit cheaper.
