You can use them on their own, or mix them with commercially available oily hair shampoos. Rosemary And Mint Oily Hair Shampoo
Mint refreshes and rebalances the scalp, while rosemary is great to make sensitive scalps comfortable. As a side benefit, Rosemary helps stimulate scalp circulation, which can help optimize hair growth and gives your hair a healthy shine.
To make this all-natural oily hair shampoo you will need to buy a shampoo base, usually available from health stores and cosmetic supplies.
Mix half a cup of boiled water with a tablespoon of rosemary and two tablespoons of finely chopped mint.
Mix in a quarter of a cup of natural shampoo base, and leave it steep for an hour (or until it is room temperature) before straining it into a clean plastic jar or bottle.
Use it as often as you want to wash your hair, but remember that with no preservatives you will need to keep the mixture in the fridge and use it up soon, so don’t prepare a large batch.
Rosemary and Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse
This rinse is particular good if you have dark hair, as Rosemary is said to help prevent white hairs. The astringent properties of the vinegar will help keep your oily hair under control and give your hair lots of shine.
You can prepare this all-natural rinse for greasy hair in two different ways: – Boil 4 cups of water and use a tea pot or french press to make tea with 15 sprigs or 4 tablespoons of dried rosemary, and allow to infuse until the water is at room temperature. – Mix with 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, and mix well in a plastic bottle. – Keep refrigerated and use within a week, just make sure to let it warm up back to room temperature before using it on your hair.
You can also infuse 1l of apple cider vinegar with rosemary by mixing two tablespoons of dried rosemary with the vinegar inside a bottle, and leave it to steep for two weeks. In this case, you will need to mix with water at the point of rinsing your hair, but the mixture will last for longer.
After you have shampooed your hair (or washed it with your no-poo or co-washing product of choice) use this rinse on your hair. If you are really concerned about the smell of rosemary, rinse it out with cold water. Otherwise just let it dry, and the vinegar scent will go away soon.
Aloe Vera and Lemon Juice Oily Scalp Treatment
Aloe vera is a natural anti-inflammatory, while lemon juice has an important astringent and anti-bacterial effect. This treatment is highly effective against dandruff and scalp irritation caused by microorganisms multiplying in the excess oil in your hair.
Mix a quarter of a cup of regular natural shampoo base with a teaspoon of aloe vera gel and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Massage it gently into your scalp, and leave it to act as a mask for 5 minutes before you rinse. You can also mix it with conditioner and leave it to act for 10 minutes after you shampoo your hair.
